Lying in the sun...
This is an old picture of our two Spotted Saddle Horse geldings when they were much younger. They are full brothers & share the same, easy going attitude. The trainer saddled & rode each one within a matter of minutes after their arrival at his place. Neither had ever been 'sacked out' with a blanket let alone saddled.

How great! I didn't know horses slept like that.
In fact, how do they sleep? I used to have one, but it's been 50 years.
They often sleep standing up. They 'lock' their legs to keep from falling & then just doze. But sometimes they do stretch out...especially on sunny days. If you google horse sleeping habits, you'll find that they don't sleep very long at all compared to humans...probably about half as much.
I think the standing sleep is a result of horses being a prey animal. It's much easier to flee from a standing position!
